Schleicher, Rojas Lead SOFLO On Final Day Of Bolles TYR Summer Classic; SOFLO Girls Finish Seventh

JACKSONVILLE, June 25, 2018—Marc Rojas and Mallory Schleicher led South Florida Aquatic Club on the final day of the Bolles School Sharks TYR Summer Classic Sunday at the Sharks’ pool.

Rojas, 24, ended up swimming the breaststroke events. After winning the 100 breaststroke on Saturday in 1:06.86, Rojas came back and took the 200 breaststroke on the final day in 2:27.09. Rojas finished with 40 points.

Schleicher, 14, finished with three second places, one third place, one fourth place, one fifth place, three seventh places and one eighth to total 91 points in high point.

On Sunday, she was second in the 100-meter freestyle in a best time 1:01.41 with a time drop of 2.30, second in the 200-meter breaststroke in a best time 1:01.41 with a time drop of 2.30 and seventh in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:31.44

Other top SOFLO finishers were:

Javier Roman, 14, 200-meter breaststroke, second 2:36.21. He finished with 42 points.

Paige Lane, 15, 100-meter freestyle, third, 1:00.35. She finished with 58 points.

Moises Rodriguez, 13, 200-meter backstroke, fifth, 2:23.79. He finished with 21 points.

Kayla Cunningham, 15, 200-meter backstroke, sixth, 2:34.19. She finished with 72 points.

Juan Colmenares, 14, 100-meter freestyle, seventh, 58.34; 200-meter backstroke, 12th, 2:25.84. He finished with 44 points.

Rafael Rodriguez, 16, 100-meter freestyle, eighth, 56.51. He finished with 93 points.

Robert Wilson, 15, 100-meter freestyle, 12th, 57.97. He finished with 30 points.

Host Bolles won the men’s team title with 2,091.5 points. Old Dominion Aquatic Club was runner-up with 1,126.5 points. SOFLO was 11th with 186 points with Rafael Rodriguez accounting for 93 points.

SwimAtlanta won the women’s team title with 1,943.5 points. Bolles was runner-up with 1,523.5. SOFLO was seventh with 163 points with Schleicher accounting for 91 points.

SOFLO’s Rojas, Cunningham Win On Day Three Of Bolles TYR Summer Classic

JACKSONVILLE, June 23, 2018—Marc Rojas and Kayla Cunningham led South Florida Aquatic Club on Day Three of the Bolles School Sharks TYR Summer Classic.

Rojas, 24, won the 100-meter breaststroke by 1/100ths of a second in 1:06.86 ahead of Bolles 17-year-old junior national champion and University of Florida-bound Dillon Hillis in 1:06.87. Rojas, who represents the Dominican Republic internationally, went 1:06.69 in prelims.

Cunningham, 15, won the 17-and-over 400-meter individual medley in 5:19.04. Cunningham was also fifth in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:30.34. She has 59 points for high point.

Mallory Schleicher, 14, was third in the 200-meter butterfly in a best time of 2:31.45, dropping 3.28 seconds off her previous best. She has 62 points in high point.

Rafael Rodriguez, 16, was second in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:09.72 just behind Bolles Jack Van Deusen in 2:09.67 and second in the 400-meter individual medley in 4:50.43.

Other top nine SOFLO finishers were:

Paige Lane, 200-meter freestyle, ninth, 2:11.13.

Javier Roman, 100-meter breaststroke, ninth, 1:13.70.

The four-day meet concludes Sunday with three sessions.

Defending Champion SOFLO Grabs Early Lead On Day One Of FGC Junior Olympics

CORAL SPRINGS, March 16, 2018—South Florida Aquatic Club’s girls’ 800-yard freestyle relay won the closest race of the night to highlight action on opening day of the Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympics on Friday.

The relay of Kayla Cunningham, Molly Golding, Sarah Acevedo and Mallory Schleicher won a thriller in 7:46.30, 14.40 seconds faster than its seed time of 8:00.70, ahead of East Coast Aquatic Club with Megan Murphy, Hailey Rudd, Anna Auld and Elana Papadopoulos second in 7:46.73.

SOFLO boys took two third places in the 400-yard and 800-yard freestyle relays. The 11-12 400 team of Christian Tijero, Diego Nazario-Vazquez, Alessandro Pereira and Alejandro Mateus was third in 3:49.71. The 13-14 800 team of Enrique Rodriguez, Brennan Binder, Javier Roman and Juan Colemanares was third in 7:28.19.

Defending champion South Florida Aquatic Club grabbed the early lead in the combined team standings at the Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

SOFLO leads with 295.50 points. Flood Aquatics is second with 242 and St. Andrew’s Aquatics is third with 236.

SOFLO is attempting to win a record eighth consecutive and ninth overall combined short course team title in the club’s 18-year history.

Nearly every SOFLO swimmer swam at least one best time. Among other SOFLO top finishers were:

CORAL SPRINGS, March 14, 2018—Defending champion South Florida Aquatic Club is ready to add another title to its impressive list of accomplishments at this weekend’s Florida Gold Coast 14&Under Junior Olympic Short Course Championships.

With a talented contingent of swimmers, SOFLO will attempt to win a record eighth consecutive and ninth overall combined short course team title in the club’s 18-year history.

Last year SOFLO, which led after every evening session, won the combined team title with 935 points at the Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

SOFLO qualified 54 swimmers (27 girls and 27 boys) in 277 individual events for JOs. SOFLO also has entered 38 relays.

Among SOFLO top-seeded swimmers are:

Kayla Cunningham Wins On Final Day; SOFLO Finishes Sixth At GSC Holiday Classic

GAINESVILLE, December 4, 2017—South Florida Aquatic Club enjoyed one of its finest road trips in the club’s history.

Competing among a strong field that featured SwimMAC, Bolles, Sarasota YMCA and host Gator Swim Club, SOFLO finished sixth in the combined and boys team standings. The girls placed ninth.

SwimMAC, the nation’s top-ranked age group team, swept the combined, boys and girls team titles.

Kayla Cunningham, 14, won her first event of the three-day meet in the 200-yard backstroke in a best time 2:03.70, shaving 3.76 seconds off her previous best time of 2:07.46. She finished with nine points in high point.

SOFLO boys were outstanding throughout the meet piling up points with talent, depth and relays and swimming best times.

SOFLO boys had three swimmers in the 11-12 100-yard backstroke. All three swimmers turned in best times either in prelims or finals. Alejandro Mateus was third in 1:02.35, Christian Tijero was fifth in 1:04.30 and Logan Gonzalez was seventh in 1:05.60.

Lozano, Cunningham Double Winners, Lead SOFLO On Final Day Of Gulliver Fall Classic

October 29, 2107—Jonathan Lozano and Kayla Cunningham led South Florida Aquatic Club on the second and final day of the Gulliver Fall Classic Sunday at windy Gulliver Prep Aquatic Center.

Lozano, 10, won the 10-and-under 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.88, dropping 4.63 seconds. He also won the 50-yard backstroke in 35.38 with a time drop of 0.94. He was second in 50-yard butterfly in 34.11, with another time drop in 2.62.

On Saturday, he had a pair of seconds in the 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle, both with time drops.

Another SOFLO double winner was Kayla Cunningham, 14, in the 13-14 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.82 and 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.88.

Mallory Schleicher, 14, won the 14-and-under 500-yard freestyle in a best time 5:14.03 with a 0.97 time drop. She was also fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 57.16.

SOFLO Has Big Day At Rain-Soaked Gulliver Fall Classic On Day One

October 29, 2017–With so many top three finishers and dropped times, South Florida Aquatic Club had a big day at the Gulliver Fall Classic Saturday at Gulliver Prep Aquatic Center.

Despite a rainy and windy day that featured weather delays, SOFLO swimmers didn’t mind a little adversity and didn’t let it affect them in the pool.

SOFLO Headed To Weekend Gulliver Fall Classic

October 27, 2017–South Florida Aquatic Club will have more than forty swimmers, including a handful of high school swimmers preparing for next week’s regions, compete in the Gulliver Fall Classic at Gulliver Prep Aquatic Center.

The two-day timed final meet features two sessions on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. There are at least three heats and up to seven in every event.

SOFLO’s Lane, Lesage Shine For Florida Gold Coast On Final Day Of Southern Zones

August 5, 2017—Paige Lane and Lance Lesage of South Florida Aquatic Club ended on a good note Saturday night at the Southern Zones Age Group LCM Championships at Tupelo (Miss.) Aquatic Center.

Lane, 14, was seventh in the 13-14 50-meter freestyle in 27.89. FGC teammate Gabrianna Banks won the event in 27.07.

Lane was also a member of Florida Gold Coast’s fourth place 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:50.85 with teammates Kiara Caamano, Chloe Hernandez and Gabrianna Banks.

Lesage, 14, was a member of FGC’s eighth place 13-14 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:44.88.

FGC’s Aiden Kohanyi was fourth in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:27.43 and was a member of the fourth place 200-meter freestyle in 1:50.50 with teammates Agustin Rodriguez, Finn Winkler and Hudson Bishop.

In addition to Lane and Lesage, SOFLO was represented by Kayla Cunningham and Alejandro Mateus.

Florida Gold Coast finished seventh among combined teams, sixth in among men’s teams and eighth among women’s teams.

USA Swimming’s Zone Championships feature top regional swimmers at the age group level who qualify. There are four zones: southern, western, central and eastern.

The Shockwave Aquatics Swim Club hosted the meet, which is being webcast from the state-of-the-art Tupelo Aquatic Center.

SOFLO’s Kayla Cunningham Top FGC Finisher On Day Three Of Southern Zones

August 3, 2017—Kayla Cunningham of South Florida Aquatic Club was the top finisher for the Florida Gold Coast Zone Team Thursday night at the Southern Zones Age Group LCM Championships at Tupelo (Miss.) Aquatic Center.

Cunningham, 14, was second in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:22.90, a best time with a 0.94 drop. Cunningham was the only FGC girl swimmer to make finals.

Teammate Paige Lane anchored the fourth place 13-14 400-meter freestyle relay that finished in 4:01.98 with FGC teammates Gabrianna Bans, Kiara Caamano and Chloe Hernandez.

USA Swimming’s Zone Championships feature top regional swimmers at the age group level who qualify. There are four zones: southern, western, central and eastern.

The Shockwave Aquatics Swim Club is hosting the meet, which is being webcast from the state-of-the-art Tupelo Aquatic Center.

The five-day meet continues on Friday with prelims and finals through Saturday.
