SOFLO Hosts Last Chance Age Group Dual Meet Saturday

By Sharon Robb
PEMBROKE PINES, November 19, 2020—There will be plenty of good racing on Saturday when South Florida Aquatic Club hosts its first swim meet with limited visiting teams and swimmers at Academic Village Pool.

SOFLO, which competed in virtual meets against Sarasota Sharks and Mason Manta Rays last month, will host the Last Chance Age Group Dual Meet on Saturday in three sessions (8-10:19 a.m., 1-3:21 p.m. and 4-5:23 p.m.)

Under strict COVID-19 guidelines, SOFLO will host a limited number of swimmers from Plantation Swim Team, Boca Raton Swim Club and Midtown Weston Aquatics in the day-long short course yards meet.

The meet will give swimmers a “last chance” to make qualifying cut times for the Dec. 10-13 30th annual Speedo Winter Championships at Plantation Aquatic Complex. Several swimmers already have cut times but are trying to add other events.

The SOFLO meet features three sessions: 13-and-over, 8 a.m. start; 12-and-under, 1 p.m. start; and developmental, 4 p.m. start. No spectators are allowed to attend, adhering to strict COVID-19 guidelines. The meet will be live streamed on SOFLO’s YouTube site.

As meet host, SOFLO and Comets Swim Team Booster Club have taken enhanced health and safety measures for swimmers, coaches, officials and volunteer timers.
