Double Winners Dinehart, Viazmetinov, Moya, Mazzi Lead SOFLO On Final Day Of FIU Spring Long Course Invite

PEMBROKE PINES, May 19, 2018—South Florida Aquatic Club had four double winners on the second and final day of the FIU Spring LC Invite Sunday at Academic Village Pool.

Elise Dinehart, 10, won the 200-meter individual medley in 3:17.98 and 100-meter freestyle in a best time 1:16.51 with a time drop of 3.57.

Alex Viazmetinov, 10, won the 50-meter backstroke in a bestime 43.46 with a time drop of 4.47 and 100-meter breaststroke in 1:44.05, also a best time with a time drop of 7.92.

Kevin Moya, 12, won the 50-meter backstroke in a best time 34.68 with a time drop of 0.03 and 50-meter butterfly in 33.50.

Stefano Mazzi, 10, won the 100-meter freestyle in a best time 1:13.08 with a time drop of 2.51 and 50-meter butterfly in a best time 36.43 with a time drop of 5.14.

Other SOFLO individual winners were:

Isabella Perry, 10, 50-meter backstroke, in a best time 43.07 with a time drop of 0.18.

Gabriela Avila, 12, 50-meter backstroke in a best time 39.29 with a time drop of 1.07.

Dahlia Hirsh, 12, 100-meter breaststroke, 1:32.96.

Ryan Harries, 10, 200-meter individual medley 3:27.78.

Rafael Rodriguez, 17, 200-meter individual medley, 2:15.91.

Because of pool construction at the FIU campus, the meet was moved to SOFLO’s home pool. The two-day meet concludes Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

In addition to SOFLO, among other teams that competed were Azura Florida Aquatics, East Coast Aquatics, Southern Wahoos, Hialeah Storm, Miami Country Day Aquatics, Gulliver Prep, Miami Swimming Academy, Nova Southeastern and Metro Aquatic Club.

Next up for SOFLO will be the June 1-2 NPB Long Course Summer Kick-Off at Plantation Central Park Aquatic Complex.

SOFLO’s Olivia Dinehart Wins Again On Final Day Of TYR Elite Showcase Classic

ST. PETERSBURG, April 15, 2019–Olivia Dinehart of South Florida Aquatic Club closed out an outstanding meet Saturday on the final day of the TYR NASA (National Age Group Swimming Association) Elite Showcase Classic Saturday at North Shore Aquatic Complex.

Dinehart, 14, won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:04.54, bettering her prelim time of 1:05.90. She ended up sweeping the breaststroke events, winning the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:19.19 earlier in the meet.

Dinehart finished with 59 points for SOFLO girls who finished with 99 points among girls teams.

Dinehart was also eighth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.97.

SOFLO teammate Stefano Mazzi, 10, was ninth in the 200-yard individual medley in a best time 2:33.49, dropping 0.75 seconds.

North Baltimore Aquatic Club won the combined team title with 1,005.5 points, the only team to crack 1,000 points. Pine Crest Swimming was the highest Florida Gold Coast team finisher placing eighth with 371. South Florida Aquatic Club was 34th with 101 points.

North Baltimore Aquatic Club also won the boys team title with 631 points. The Fish won the women’s team title with 490.5 points. Pine Crest was fifth with 284 and SOFLO was 24th with 99 points, tied with the Jupiter Dragons and Azura Florida Aquatics.

SOFLO, a TYR-sponsored team, had nine swimmers compete in the single age group swimming championship. With 92 teams entered, it was the largest meet SOFLO competed in.

SOFLO was one of six Florida Gold Coast teams that have swimmers entered including Azura Florida Aquatics, Eagles Aquatics, Heritage Aquatics, Jupiter Dragons and Pine Crest Swimming.

Among out-of-state teams were Tide Swimming, Virginia Gators, The Fish, Black Marlins, Delaware Swim Team, Lake Shore, Dolphin Swim Club, Poseidon Swimming, North Penn, Rose Bowl Aquatics, Ohio State Swim Club, Trident Aquatic Club, Jersey Wahoos, North Baltimore Aquatic Club and Potomac Marlins.

SOFLO Swimmers, Relays Shine On Day Two Of FGC Short Course Junior Olympics

CORAL SPRINGS, March 16, 2018—Defending champion South Florida Aquatic Club turned in another day of outstanding swims Saturday on Day Two of the Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympic Short Course Championship at Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

SOFLO leads the combined with 409.5 points and boys team totals with 235 points. SOFLO girls overtook Pine Crest to move into first place with 174.5 points.

SOFLO looks to be in the driver’s seat for a record ninth consecutive and tenth overall combined short course team title in the club’s 19-year history.

SOFLO’s girls and boys relays were outstanding piling up the points against some strong competition.

The girls 11-12 400-yard medley relay, seeded fourth going into finals, came up with a stunning win in 4:20.16 with Mariann Catalasan, Natalia Sibug, Mariana Pinto and Anastasia Lutz.

The boys 10-and-under 200-yard medley relay won in 2:15.27 with Connor Jimenez, Ryan Harries, Stefano Mazzi and Juan Vallmitjana.

The boys 11-12 200-yard medley relay won in 1:56.81 with Hashan Ekanayake, Javier Colmenares, Luca Hincapie and Kevin Moya).

The boys 13-14 200-yard medley relay was second in 1:41.25 with Sebastian Lares, Logan Gonzalez, Juan Mora and Diego Nazario-Vazquez.

The boys 11-12 400-yard medley relay was second in 4:19.37 with Jonathan Lozano, Javier Colmenares, Luca Hincapie and Kevin Moya.

The boys 13-14 400-yard medley relay was second in 3:44.13 with Alejandro Mateus, Juan Mora, Sebastian Lares and Diego Nazario-Vazquez.

The girls 13-14 400-yard medley relay was third in 4:04.04 with Elena Dinehart, Olivia Dinehart, Sally Golding and Victoria Torres.

The girls 13-14 200-yard medley relay was third in 1:51.03 with Elena Dinehart, Victoria Torres, Sally Golding and Olivia Dinehart.

SOFLO individual winners were:

Olivia Dinehart, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:16.51. She was also second in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:30.27.

Sebastian Lares, 200-yard freestyle, 1:44.01.

Stefano Mazzi, 100-yard backstroke, 1:10.56.

At this year’s meet, SOFLO has 60 swimmers in 317 individual events for JOs. SOFLO also entered a record 42 relays.

The 14-year-old SOFLO swimmers are making their final JO short course appearance before aging up and hope to make a lasting impression.

More than 600 swimmers and 43 teams are entered. The top six finishers in each JO event qualify for the Florida Gold Coast All-Star team. Among FGC teams competing at Pine Crest Swimming, Azura Florida Aquatics, East Coast, Heritage Aquatics, Hialeah, TS Aquatics, Metro Aquatics, North Palm Beach, Miami Swimming, Wahoos of Wellington, FAST, Swim Fort Lauderdale, Gulliver and AquaKids Sharks.

The three-day meet concludes Sunday with prelims a 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.

PEMBROKE PINES, January 25, 2019–South Florida Aquatic Club had a strong showing on the opening chilly night of the TYR SOFLO Open.

SOFLO had three individual winners.

Izzy Wilson, 12, won the 200-yard freestyle in a best time 2:06.24, dropping 3.80 off her previous best. She posted another best time in the 200-yard individual medley placing fourth in 2:30.13, dropping 5.69. She has 18 points in high point.

Stefano Mazzi, 10, won the 200-yard individual medley in a best time 2:39.97, dropping 1:05. He was also third in the 200-yard freestyle in a best time 2:22.82, dropping 3.64. He has 19 points in high point.

Kathleen Golding, 18, was a double winner. She swept the 100-yard individual medley in 1:01.31 and 400-yard individual medley in 4:34.24. She has 22 points in high point.

SOFLO swept the top four spots in the 15-and-over 100-yard individual medley: Kathleen Golding 1:01.31, Mallory Schleicher 1:03.16 time drop, Mary Smutny 1:03.88 and Molly Golding 1:04.30.

The same SOFLO foursome also swept the top four spots in the 400-yard individual medley: Golding, 4:34.24, Schleicher, 4:37.93, Smutny 4:39.64 and Golding 4:39.73.

NORTH MIAMI, September 21, 2018–South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers will get in some racing against several top teams Saturday in the Florida Gold Coast Open Invite NMST at Miami-Dade North College pool.

SOFLO is sending 50 swimmers (26 girls and 24 boys) entered in 230 indivdual events.

Among the large contingent are Kaitlyn Barrios, 12; Mariann Catalasan, 12; Javier Colmenares, 12; Luna Delgado, 12; Joseph-Blake Natino, 12; Judith-Alison Natino, 12; Carleigh Schleicher, 12; Natalia Sibug, 12; Juan Vallmitjana, 9; and Sarah Vasquez, 10.

Stefano Mazzi Leads SOFLO Swimmers At HAT Sizzler

May 10, 2017—-Stefano Ricardo Mazzi cleaned up at the recent Heritage Aquatic Team 8&Under Sizzler at American Heritage School in Plantation.

Mazzi, 8, won two events, finished second and third in two other events during the boys’ competition. All four swims were best times.

Mazzi won the 25-yard backstroke in 19.23, the only swimmer to break 20 seconds in the field. His previous best was 19.69. He also won the 25-yard freestyle in 16.06 (previous best 16.99).

Mazzi was also second in the 25-yard butterfly in 17.74 (previous best 18.47) and third in the 25-yard breaststroke in 22.34 (previous best 22.80).

SOFLO teammate Joseph-Blake Natino, 8, was second in the 25-yard breaststroke in a best time 21.78 (22.55 previous best). He also took a fourth and two sixth places in three other events.

Sabina LaPietra of Plantation Swim Team and Max Bogatov of North Miami Swim Team swept all four sprint events in the 6-and-under races.

Sofia Lugo, 8, was SOFLO’s top finisher, placing fourth in the 25-yard breaststroke in a best time 25.42 (25.84 previous best) and 25-yard freestyle in a best time 18.61 (previous best 19.62). She also took a fifth and seventh.

May 4, 2017—-Joseph-Blake Natino leads South Florida Aquatic Club’s six-swimmer contingent for the 8&Under Sizzler Meet hosted by Heritage Aquatic Team and American Heritage School Friday at American Heritage School in Plantation.

Blake, 8, will compete in all four sprint events for 7-8-year-olds.

Other SOFLO swimmers entered are Clara Bland, 7; Sofia Lugo, 8; Stefano Mazzi, 8; Ella Michael, 7; and Aryav Thakur, 8. All five will also compete in all four individual sprint events.

The pool features six short course racing lanes (25 yards x 25 meters) with separate warm-up and swim-down lanes.

The events in order are girls and boys 25-butterfly, 6-and-under and 7-8; girls and boys 25-yard backstroke, 6-and-under and 7-8; girls and boys 25-yard breaststroke, 6-and-under and 7-8; girls and boys 25-yard freestyle 6-and-under and 7-8; and 100-yard freestyle relay for 8-and-under.

Warm-up is 5 p.m. and competition begins 5:30 p.m.
