Pompano Beach Girls, Boys Sweep Coral Springs, Piper, Stranahan

POMPANO BEACH, September 27, 2019–A week before the Oct. 5 BCAA Championships in Plantation, Pompano Beach swimmers got in some good racing while picking up three girls and three boys wins in Wednesday’s four-team home meet.

The Tornadoes girls defeated Piper, 107-34, Coral Springs, 103-50, and Stranahan, 116-0, by forfeit. Coral Springs topped Piper, 76-53.

Pompano Beach won all three girls relays and five individual events.

Victoria Zlateva led the Tornadoes as a double winner in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.03 and 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.22.

Lauren Suglio was a double winner for Coral Springs in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:39.83 and 100-yard butterfly in 1:13.26.

The boys team beat Piper, 104-40, and Coral Springs, 99-61, and also picked up a forfeit win from Stranahan. Coral Springs defeated Piper, 95-47.

Pompano Beach also swept all three boys relays. The Tornadoes won six individual events including double winners Steven Gary and Jake Schulte.

Gary won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.05, 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.44 and anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.

Schulte won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.56 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.34. He was a member of two winning relays.

Stranahan did not compete and forfeited wins to opponents.

Cypress Bay Lightning Remains Undefeated, Sweeps Taravella

WESTON, September 19, 2019–With the Broward County Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships still two weeks away, Cypress Bay is already a clear-cut favorite to defend its titles.

The Lightning has been dominating its BCAA opponents in dual and tri-meets this season including Wednesday night’s meet against Taravella at the Weston Family YMCA Pool.

Cypress Bay girls defeated Taravella, 348-148, and the boys won, 320-190. Stranahan forfeited wins to Cypress Bay and Taravella.

The girls swept all three relays and all eight individual events.

Nicol Bellardi and Ellie Koch were double winners for the Lightning.

Bellardi won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.54 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:27.46. Bellardi was also a member of two winning relays, the 200- and 400-yard freestyles.

Koch won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.81 and 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.58. She also led off the winning 200-yard medley relay.

The Lightning boys team was nearly as dominant winning all but two events won by double winner Juan Domecq in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.

Philopatier Ibrahim and Luis Bucaro were Cypress Bay double winners. Ibrahim won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.81 and 100-yard butterfly in 55.55.

Bucaro won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.44 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.64.

Pembroke Pines Charter Swimmers Come Up Big In Season Opener; SOFLO Swimmers Shine

AUGUST 29, 2019—Pembroke Pines Charter boys and girls teams looked impressive in their sweep of Nova and Stranahan Wednesday night in their season-opener.

The Jaguar girls defeated Nova, 118-56, and Stranahan, 140-0. The boys defeated Stranahan, 140-8, and Nova, 125-44.

Pembroke Pines Charter swept all three girls relays.

Maria Herne, Sarah Vazquez and Jena Legaspi were double winners.

Legaspi won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:27.26 and 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.41.

Herne won the 50-yard freestyle in 28.37 and 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.13.

Vazquez won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:16.03 and 500-yard freestyle in 6:03.82.

Nova’s Samantha Trodick was also a double winner in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.71 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.01.

Pembroke Pines Charter also swept all three boys relays.

Rafael Rodriguez, coming off the Speedo Junior Nationals, was a double winner and was a member of two winning relays. He won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.78 and 100-yard backstroke in 54.96.

Teammate Ryan Alfonso was also a double winner. Alfonso won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.44 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.18.

Nova’s Orlando Saballos was the Titans’ only double winner. He won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.53 and 100-yard freestyle in 54.60.

Pembroke Pines Charter Defeats Douglas, Stranahan For First Wins Of Season

PEMBROKE PINES, September 12, 2018—Pembroke Pines Charter won its first meet of the season with wins over Douglas and Stranahan Wednesday at Academic Village Pool.

The boys team defeated Douglas, 99-77, and Stranahan, 140-8. Douglas defeated Stranahan, 142-8.

The girls team topped Douglas, 110-73, and Stranahan, 140-0. Douglas defeated Stranahan, 153-0.

The boys team swept the top three places in the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle and won the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Junior Rafael Rodriguez was a double winner for the Jaguars in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.27 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.21.

The girls also swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle and swept all three relays.

Senior Julinna Villarta was a double winner in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:27.82 and 500-yard freestyle in 6:07.38.

Valentina Terry, Gabriella Terry, Maria Herne, Jena Legaspi and Victoria Torres each picked up individual wins for the Jaguars. Christian Vasquez and Sebastian Sevilla won individual events for the boys.
