Florida Gold Coast Finishes Sixth On Final Day Of Southern Zones Championships; Schleicher Top SOFLO Swimmer

MIDLAND, Tex., August 5, 2018—Florida Gold Coast, one of the meet underdogs, finished among the Top 10 on the fifth and final day of Southern Zones Age Group Championships Saturday at FMH Foundation Natatorium.

Florida Gold Coast swept sixth place in combined (385.5), boys (180.5) and girls (187) team categories.

Florida Swimming swept the combined (1,432), boys (679.5) and girls (700.5) team titles.

South Florida Aquatic Club’s Mallory Schleicher, who enjoyed her finest week of swims at a national-caliber meet, was SOFLO’s top finisher placing ninth in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:30.43.

Schleicher, 14, finished with 29 points after competing in seven events which included a title in the 400-meter individual medley.

SOFLO teammates Valerie Vank and Christian Tijero competed on the 11-12 girls and boys 200-meter freestyle relays that finished in the Top 7. Vank, 12, had three points and competed in 11 events. Tijero, 12, competed in eight events.

Florida Gold Coast Comes Up Big On Day Four Of Southern Zones Championships; SOFLO’s Schleicher Takes Sixth, Vank Eighth

MIDLAND, Tex., August 3, 2018—Florida Gold Coast swimmers enjoyed their finest night of the Southern Zones Age Group Championships Friday at FMH Foundation Natatorium.

Landon Kyser, 12, of Heritage Aquatic Team won the 11-12 100-meter backstroke in 1:06.58. Kyser has totaled 21.5 points in high point.

Aiden Kohanyi, 13, of TS Aquatics won the 13-14 100-meter breaststroke in 1:07.97. Kohanyi has 22 points.

Riley Botting, 13, of Pine Crest Swimming was second in the 13-14 100-meter breaststroke in 1:15.23. Botting has 21 points.

Victor Valdes, 14, of Hialeah Swim Club was third in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:09.25. Parker Rosenthal was tenth in 1:13.83. Valdes has 15 points.

South Florida Aquatic Club’s Mallory Schleicher, 14, continued her great week with a sixth-place finish in the 13-14 400-meter freestyle in 4:34.12. Schleicher has 27 points. Kiara Caamano, 14, of North Palm Beach was tenth in 4:42.14. She has one point.

SOFLO teammate Valerie Vank, 12, finished eighth in the 11-12 100-meter breaststroke in 1:20.53. Vank has three points.

FGC’s 13-14 boys 200-meter medley relay was third in 1:52.53 with Hudson Bishop, Aiden Kohanyi, Matthew Tarafa and Nicolas Gallego.

FGC’s 11-12 boys 200-meter medley relay was sixth in 2:07.79 with Landon Kyser, Makar Goncharov, Lucas Bailey and Evan Pelletier.

FGC’s 11-12 200-meter medley relay was sixth in 2:08.77 with Julianne McCranie, Sara Lin, Sidney Anton and Vank. The 13-14 relay was fifth in 2:04.31 with Rebecca Montero, Riley Botting, Giuliana Garcia and Nicole Aguilar.

Florida Swimming leads the combined (1,088.5), boys (510.5) and girls (526). Florida Gold Coast is sixth in combined (331.5), sixth in boys (156.5) and sixth in girls (157).

The meet concludes Saturday with prelims and finals.

Lin, Kohanyi Win For Florida Gold Coast All-Stars On Day Two Of Southern Zones

MIDLAND, Tex., August 1, 2018—Sara Lin and Aiden Kohanyi won individual events Wednesday on Day Two of the Southern Zones Age Group Championships at FMH Foundation Natatorium.

Sara Lin, 12, of Pine Crest Swimming won the 50-meter breaststroke in 34.82 with a time drop of 0.76.

Aiden Kohanyi, 13, of TS Aquatics won the 13-14 200-meter breaststroke in 2:28.77 with a time drop of 1.94.

Valerie Vank, 12, and Alexis Christensen, 12, were South Florida Aquatic Club’s top finishers. Vank was 11th in the 50-meter breaststroke in 37.92 and Christensen placed 14th in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:18.57.

Vank anchored the fifth-place 11-12 400-meter medley relay that finished in 4:45.15 with other relay members Julianne McCranie, Sara Lin and Bella Egizi.

Florida Gold Coast 13-14 boys were third in the 400-meter medley relay in 4:06.29 with Hudson Bishop, Aiden Kohanyi, Matthew Tarafa and Nicolas Gallego.

For the second day in a row, Florida Swimming leads the combined (482) and girls (231). Southeastern leads the boys (205). Florida Gold Coast is sixth in combined (134), seventh in boys (56) and sixth in girls (60).

The meet continues Thursday with prelims and finals.

SOFLO’s Mallory Schleicher Leads FGC Zone All-Star Team On Opening Day Of Southern Zones

MIDLAND, Tex., July 31, 2018—South Florida Aquatic Club’s Mallory Schleicher was the top finisher Tuesday on opening day of the Southern Zones Age Group Championships at FMH Foundation Natatorium.

Schleicher, 14, was fourth in the 13-14 800-meter freestyle in a lifetime-best 9:24.74, dropping 2.54 off her previous best of 9:27.28 to lead the Florida Gold Coast All-Stars.

SOFLO teammate Christian Tijero, 12, was 14th in the 11-12 400-meter freestyle in 4:45.98.

Valerie Vank was a member of the mixed 11-12 200-meter freestyle relay that finished eighth in 1:54.02. Landon Kyser, Julianne McCranie and Evan Pelletier were other relay members.

As expected Florida Swimming dominated opening day action and leads the combined (138), boys (34) and girls (52). Florida Gold Coast girls are fifth, boys are ninth and combined is seventh.

The meet continues Wednesday with prelims and finals.

Four SOFLO Swimmers Selected For FGC Age Group Zone Team

PEMBROKE PINES, July 20, 2018—South Florida Aquatic Club had four talented swimmers selected for the Florida Gold Coast Age Group Zone Team.

Alexis Christensen, Mallory Schleicher, Valerie Vank and Christian Tijero, all currently competing in this weekend’s FGC Junior Olympics in Stuart, will compete along with other 11-14 year olds in the Southern Zone Age Group Swim Meet July 31-August 5 at COM Aquatic Center, in Midland, Texas.

Valerie Vank, Christian Tijero Lead SOFLO At Michael Lohberg Invitational

CORAL SPRINGS, Jun 18, 2018—Valerie Vank and Christian Tijero of South Florida Aquatic Club were triple winners during the Michael Lohberg Invitational this past weekend at the Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

Vank, 12, swept the 11-12 breaststroke events. She won the 50-meter breaststroke in a best time 37.16, dropping 1.34; 200-meter breaststroke in 2:55.68, dropping 2.49; and 100-meter breaststroke in 1:21.45, dropping 1.77.

Tijero, 12, won the 200-meter backstroke in 2:35.72 with a time drop 8.50; 100-meter backstroke in 1:12.00 with a time drop of 4.61; and 200-meter individual medley in 2:36.71 with a time drop of 2.50.

Defending Champion SOFLO Heads Field For FGC Junior Olympics

CORAL SPRINGS, March 14, 2018—Defending champion South Florida Aquatic Club is ready to add another title to its impressive list of accomplishments at this weekend’s Florida Gold Coast 14&Under Junior Olympic Short Course Championships.

With a talented contingent of swimmers, SOFLO will attempt to win a record eighth consecutive and ninth overall combined short course team title in the club’s 18-year history.

Last year SOFLO, which led after every evening session, won the combined team title with 935 points at the Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

SOFLO qualified 54 swimmers (27 girls and 27 boys) in 277 individual events for JOs. SOFLO also has entered 38 relays.

Among SOFLO top-seeded swimmers are:

Kayla Cunningham, 14, 200-yard backstroke, 2:03.70. It is one of seven events she is qualified in.

Valerie Vank, 12, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:30.52. It is one of seven events she is qualified in.

Alejandro Mateus, 12, 400-yard individual medley, 4:48.16. It is one of seven events she is qualified in.

SOFLO swimmers making their final JO short course appearance before aging up and hoping to make a lasting impression are: Sarah Acevedo, Brennan Binder, Juan Colmenares, Kayla Cunningham, Mark Andre De Gracia, Molly Golding, Yannai Michael, Jena Legaspi, Sara Quintero, Anthony Robaina, Javier Roman, Mallory Schleicher and Christian Vasquez.

More than 600 swimmers and 43 teams are entered. The top six finishers in each JO event qualify for the Florida Gold Coast All-Star team. Among FGC teams competing at Pine Crest, Azura, East Coast, Metro Aquatics, North Palm Beach, Miami Swimming, Wahoos of Wellington, Gulliver and AquaKids Sharks.
