PLANTATION, May 30, 2024—With school almost over, swimmers can focus on meets for the next three months starting with this weekend’s 16th annual Long Course Summer Kickoff at Plantation Aquatic Complex.
North Palm Beach Swim Club will host the two-day centrally located long course meet for Broward, Palm Beach and Metro-Dade swim teams.
Two sessions on both Saturday and Sunday are geared for 10-and-under and 13-and-over swimmers with morning sessions at 8:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions at 1 p.m.
South Florida Aquatic Club is sending a large contingent and heads the field that also features Florida Gold Coast teams Eagle Aquatics, Swim Fort Lauderdale, Pine Crest Swimming, YMCA Swimming, Sunrise Swimming, Hurricane Aquatics, Boca Raton Swim Team, Hialeah Swim Club, TS Aquatics, SwimFast, Gulliver Prep, Plantation Swim Team, Coral Springs Swim Club and Pompano Beach Piranhas.

N.C. State-bound Erika Pelaez, 17, of Eagle Aquatics and National Age Group Record holder and member of the 2023 World Juniors team, is fine tuning for the U.S. Olympic Trials this weekend. She recently swam a best time of 54.56 in the 100 freestyle, her best time since July 2022 (54.65). She also has Olympic cuts in the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley.

Of note: North Palm Beach Swim Club is sponsoring/hosting the meet….All sessions are timed finals…Admission is $5 for all adults…Heat sheets will not be sold but can be found on the NPB website or Meet Mobile…There will be no concession stands at the meet. Swimmers need to bring their own fluids and snacks…General warm-up for morning sessions is 7-7:40 a.m. and noon to 12:30 for afternoon sessions.
