NAPLES, Italy, September 2, 2021–After finishing seventh in the 200-meter breaststroke, SOFLO’s Alia Atkinson roared back with a win in the 50-meter breaststroke in her first pro meet of the ISL’s third season for the London Roar.
Atkinson, 32, of Jamaica won the sprint event in 29.73 ahead of Benedetta Pilato of Energy Standard in 29.80 and picked up 15 points for her team. It was her sixth career 50 breaststroke win. Atkinson was seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.97.
London teammate and American Heritage alum Dylan Carter of Trinidad & Tobago was fourth in the 50-meter freestyle in 21.46.
After Day One of the four-team meet, Energy Standard, led by Chad le Clos, leads with 341 followed by London Roar with 214, Iron with 181.5 and New York Breakers with 160.5.
The four teams will resume competing Friday at 2 p.m. EST in the ISL’s fourth match of the season.
