St. Andrew’s Wins Boys’ Team Title, Record 12th Combined; King’s Academy Wins Girls Title; Eight Meet Records Fall At Palm Beach County Championships

WEST PALM BEACH, October 15, 2022—For the second consecutive year, St. Andrew’s and King’s Academy turned the Palm Beach County High School Swimming and Diving Championships into a prize fight Friday at Lake Lytal Family Aquatic Complex.

The teams have developed a rivalry and duked it out until the end with St. Andrew’s winning the boys’ team title and record 12th combined team title. King’s Academy defended its title winning its second girls team title for the second time in the team’s history.

The Scots, with three relay wins and one double winner, captured the boys team title with 430 points and King’s Academy was runner-up with 308. The Scots won its 12th combined team title with 810 points, ahead of King’s Academy with 739.

King’s Academy, led by double winner Aly Bozzuto and two relay wins, won the girls crown with 431 points. St. Andrew’s was second with 380 points.

Eight meet records were broken throughout the night. They were:

Girls 200-yard medley relay, King’s Academy, 1:42.67 with Ava Fasano, Bozzuto, Emma Herrera and Julianna Bell.

Girls 200-yard individual medley, 1:57.03, Madi Sipowski, King’s Academy.

Girls 100-yard butterfly, 54.43, Aspen Gersper, St. Andrew’s.

Girls 200-yard freestyle relay, King’s Academy, 1:34.36 with Bozzuto, Fasano, Kiki Munna and Bell.

Girls 100-yard breaststroke, 1:02.36, Bozzuto, King’s Academy.

Boys 200-yard medley relay, St. Andrew’s 1:34.64 with Ambrus Barcsak, Diego Balbi, Valerio Bonuglia and Jake Venezia.

Boys 100-yard butterfly, 47.64, Diego Balbi, St. Andrew’s.

Boys 400-yard freestyle relay, St. Andrew’s 3:06.33 with Valerio Bonuglia, Barcsak, Aitor Arrese-Igor and Balbi.

Park Vista senior Riley Hersh (403.55 points) won the girls 1-meter diving title and Oxbridge Academy’s Sean Bowling (452.55) won the boys diving title.

Bozzuto won the 50 freestyle in 22.93 and 100 breaststroke in 1:02.36. King’s Academy individual winners were Madi Sipowski, 200 IM, 1:57.03; Kiki Munna, 100 freestyle, 52.27; and Emma Herrera, 500 freestyle, 4:56.69.

St. Andrew’s had three individual girls winners: Erin Miller, 200 freestyle, 1:51.40; Virginia commit Aspen Gersper, 100 butterfly, 54.43; and Alexia Sotomayor, 100-yard backstroke, 55.27.

Ambrus Barcsak was a double winner for St. Andrew’s winning the 200 freestyle in 1:40.79 and 500 freestyle in 4:41.79. Other St. Andrew’s winners were Aitor Arrese-Igor in the 200 IM in 1:50.60 and Diego Balbi in the 100 butterfly in 47.64.

Chase Foulds of Park Vista was a double winner in the 100 freestyle in 46.78 and 100 breaststroke in 58.24.

Meet hosts and longtime coaches Gordon and Melanie Andrews announced that Friday’s meet will be the last county meet the pair will coordinate and host after more than 20 years.

Unlike Saturday’s Broward County Athletic Association which features only BCAA-member schools, the Palm Beach County Championships feature private and public schools to determine a true county champion. A field of 26 teams competed.
