Sophomore Ryan O’Shaughnessy won two events to lead Seton Hall to a convincing 182.5-108.5 victory over Marist this past weekend in the Pirates regular season-ender at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium in South Orange, N.J.

The Pirates finished the regular season at 9-2.

O’Shaughnessy, 19, won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.41 and 200-yard individual medley in 1:58.18. He was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.63.

O’Shaugnessy was also a member of the third-place 200-yard medley relay that finished in 1:38.47.

The team’s 19 men’s qualifiers, including O’Shaughnessy, are now preparing for the Feb. 10-19 Big East Championships in Louisville.

O’Shaugnessy made it all the way to the Big East finals last year as a freshman.

Gators Sweep Tennessee, Indian River; McKnight Finishes Third

University of Florida’s men’s and women’s teams ended the regular season with a sweep of Indian River on Sunday in Gainesville.

One day after sweeping No. 10-ranked Tennessee on Seniors Day, the No. 5 men’s team (6-3, 2-1) defeated the Pioneers, 165-120 and No. 8 women’s team (6-4, 1-2) topped the Pioneers, 157-106.

On Saturday, the Gators topped Tennessee 198-101 in the men’s competition and 180-120 in the women’s.

“It was a tremendous weekend for the seniors,” Florida head coach Gregg Troy said. “They had great performances. It was a tremendous way to finish up the dual meet season for the seniors.”

The Gators won all 34 events. The men are now 25-0 in head-to-head matchups against Indian River and women are 26-2.

SOFLO’s Taylor McKnight, 18, a freshman, finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.57. She was fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.13. She led off the Gators’ 800-yard freestyle that finished in 7:47.14.

The Gators will now break from competition before hosting the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 11-13 (diving) and Feb. 16-19 (swimming).

Penn State Knocks Off Michigan

SOFLO’s Natasha Moodie of Michigan won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.06 but it wasn’t enough as No. 25 ranked Penn State upset No. 15 Michigan, 123-120, snapping the Wolverines four-meet win streak on Seniors Day in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Moodie also anchored the Wolverines second place 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 1:42.99 and second place 400-yard freestyle relay that finished in 3:23.16. Michigan was leading 110-97 with two events remaining.

SOFLO’s Bandy, Phelan Compete At Same Meet

In a double dual meet against Louisville and Virginia Tech, Indiana’s women’s team ended its dual meet season with five pool records and wins over the Cardinals, 181-119 and VPI, 223-77, in Louisville.

SOFLO’s Brittney Phelan, a freshman at Indiana, was seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.95.

The Hoosiers will now focus on the Feb. 16-19 Big 10 championships in Bloomington. Indiana is a two-time defending champion.

In the men’s competition, Louisville topped VPI, 154-146 and lost to Indiana, 176-124.

Louisville sophomore Kevin Bandy was 10th in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:38.26, 12th in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:43.98 and 13th in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:55.24.
