July 17, 2014—-Pembroke Pines police officer Jennifer Martin dominated the 2014 Can-Am Police-Fire Games Wednesday at the Graham Aquatic Center YMCA in York County, Pa.

Martin, 33, who trains at South Florida Aquatic Club, went ten-for-ten in her swimming events, winning eight individual gold medals and two relay gold medals in her meet debut.

All were Can-Am Police-Fire meet records.

The top masters and open water swimmer and one of the nation’s top swimmers in police and fire competitions had last competed in the Masters Classic in Fort Lauderdale in February. Before that it was the Police Olympics in June 2013. Martin trains at Academic Village Pool in Pembroke Pines.

Obviously, Martin more than made up for lost time in competition with her Herculean effort.

Martin won the 100 backstroke in 1:12.47; 50 backstroke in 33.10; 50 freestyle in 26.08; 50 breaststroke in 34.29; 100 breaststroke in 1:16.86; 100 butterfly in 1:10.61; 100 freestyle in 1:01.14 and 50 butterfly in 29.55.

She was also a member of the two gold medal 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays.

“I was very excited to compete at my first Can-Am Games,” Martin said. “I am very pleased with my performance today but I am using these Games as a stepping stone for the World Police and Fire Games in Fairfax next year.

“I would like to thank the volunteers as their efforts are what make the Games such a success.”

The Games, held every two years, feature police, fire, EMS and other first responders from all over North America. It rotates between sites in the U.S. and Canada.

Athletes are competing in more than 50 sporting events at over 30 venues in York County.

Swimming is among the traditional athletic competitions that was held along with hockey, volleyball, soccer, softball, golf and cycling.

All event proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
