SOFLO Qualifies Record 25 Swimmers For All-Star Meet That Begins Saturday

FORT PIERCE, March 31, 2017—The Florida Gold Coast All-Stars, with a big, strong contingent from South Florida Aquatic Club, will take on Florida Swimming at this weekend’s Florida Swimming vs. Florida Gold Coast All-Star Dual Meet at Indian River State College.

In last year’s meet, FGC won the boys team title, 329.5-306.5 with some outstanding swims from SOFLO swimmers.

Florida Swimming is defending champion in the combined (758.5-561.5) and girls (410-226) competition.

SOFLO had 25 swimmers qualify and will have 21 participate. Last year SOFLO had 15 qualify.

Four of the qualifiers—Lance Lesage, Michael Arias, Joseph Lee and Nicolas Rossi are not competing. The previous highest amount to qualify was 24 in 2010 when the Comets and Coral Springs Swim Club were merged.

SOFLO swimmers that will compete are: Natalia Sibug, Mariann Catalasan, Jonathan Lozano, Javier Colmenares, Alessandro Pereira, Sebastian Lares, Zackary Harris, Enrique Rodriguez, Diego Dulieu, Alejandro Mateus, Yannai Michael, Alex Golding, Kayla Cunningham, Molly Golding, Michelle Marinheiro, Paige Lane, Katrina Del Vecchio, Sophia Rupert, Daniela Curbelo, Sarah Acevedo and Javier Roman.

Alejandro Mateus is defending champion in the 50-yard backstroke, 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly.

Lares, Pereira and Molly Golding were also top finishers last year.

The 25-yard short course meet, hosted by Indian River Aquatics, is for 10-and-under, 11-12, 13-and 14. All events are timed finals.

Friday was a travel day and team work out for Florida Gold Coast swimmers.

The swimmers are already showing their team spirit. One swimmer got a hair cut with the initials FGC shaved into the back of his head. Another swimmer has a t-shirt that reads, “I’m So Good, Your Mom Cheers For Me!”
